Frolfing

ImageHello!  Sunday nights… does anyone else hate them?  I don’t even have a full time job anymore and don’t get up as early as I used to, but I’m still not a huge fan on Sundays.  Have you ever seen The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy?  It’s like when Arthur says “I never did get the hang of Tuesdays.”  Well, to get over my Sunday slump I decided to take myself out to a coffee shop.  I am sitting at a local coffee shop trying to get work done, drinking my soy mate latte, but I’m having a hard time not people watching.  Do you ever get that feeling that you just belong some place.  I live in Boulder, CO and I don’t really think just looking at me you would say I belong, but the longer I have lived here and the more I observe, the more I realize there are very few people who don’t belong here.  And most of the time those people who would fit into that category don’t actually like Boulder so it’s not really like anyone else but themselves are categorizing themselves as such…  Anyways, a little tangent before I start what I came here for – Frolfing!

Can I say that if you type frisbee without a capital F that you will be asked to correct this?  That’s really weird to me… It’s also weird to me that people call frolfing (frisbee golf) ‘Disc Golf.’  The term ‘frolfing’ came from my high school days and I guess I just can’t let it go.  So I have been on a kick this summer of getting out and moving without actually working out.  I don’t hate to workout, I just don’t love it either.  This is also my first summer in Boulder that I haven’t had a full time job and I have really been trying to get out and enjoy the true beauty that I am surrounded by.  This summer, although I wish I have done more hiking, I have been getting out frequently to do some frisbee golf.

Disc golf, for those of you who have not heard of it, according to Wikipedia is “ a flying disc game, as well as a precision and accuracy sport, in which individual players throw a flying disc at a target.”  Yes this is considered a sport, and some people take it incredibly seriously.  If you are like me though and you just want to get out and have fun that is perfectly acceptable as well.

Frisbee golf (or if you prefer, Disc golf) is great because you don’t have to be an athlete, you don’t have to be good at throwing a Frisbee and you don’t really even have to have that great of depth perception.  You just need to find someone who will agree to be on a team with you;)  I am lucky that my boyfriend loves me enough to take pity on me and let me be on his team.  We really do make a great team though – he will throw the first long throw, we will both share throwing the mid-ranges and then I will throw the close ranges.  And we can even make par doing this!  My favorite thing about frolfing?  I actually do get great exercise in and I don’t even realize it because it is that much fun.  All of the courses in Boulder too also have phenomenal views, which always helps!

I realize that not every state has frolfing courses – however you should check first before you assume that your state doesn’t.  It is incredibly fun, and it allows you to get out and enjoy some fresh air.

Side note:  Do you ever find yourself while at a coffee shop staring other customers down if they have the seat you want, or if they have been lucky enough to jack an outlet before you?  I just caught myself staring at this gentleman next to me because he has taken the only outlet in this vicinity, and now he is leaving… I hope I didn’t have anything to do with that;)  Also though – JACKPOT!  Now I can sit here for two hours like I had set out to since my computer will happily be plugged in:)

Anyways – if your state has a Disc Golf course – go use it!  It will be worth it – I promise.  And take some pictures:)  Here are some from my most recent frolfing adventures – enjoy!

How can you beat ‘exercising’ with this view?

Sometimes your disc gets thrown off course and you get to go trape-sing through the jungle…

We’ve been playing a lot at sunset since it has been so hot – but look how beautiful it is!
